Q&A with Siobhan Aldred- Makeup Artist

Working her magic at London Fashion Week and with Paris Fashion Week in the pipeline, Siobhan Aldred, is a passionate and enthusiastic makeup artist. At the age of 24, she explains how she made a drastic career change to become part of this exciting makeup industry.

Q: What inspired you to become a makeup artist?

A: From a young age, I have always had an interest in makeup, but ended up doing office jobs. Which I did not like! I always said to myself that I never wanted to work in an office, and wanted to do something more creative. So, after five years in that role, I decided to take the plunge. I did a makeup course at DFMA Makeup Academy and became a makeup artist. And here I now am, giving it my best shot. I’m working my way into the world of makeup and I am loving it!

Q: What makeup styles do you specialise in? SAldred Makeup (2)

A: I provide makeup looks for mainly Fashion and Editorial, TV, Media, Bridal and Special Occasions. My service is all about having fun and being relaxed. I like to make people feel comfortable when I’m doing their makeup for them.

Q: Since becoming a makeup artist, what events have you been involved with?

A: I’ve had a few shoots now that have been mainly fashion related. But I done one recently, which was makeup for an actor in West End show, Mamma Mia.

I have also just been part of London Fashion Week (LFW) and have Paris Fashion Week (PFW) coming up soon too. LFW was absolutely amazing! It was so great to work with so many models and designers, to create all the different looks. The day was really fun and everyone was so great to work with. I feel so lucky to have been picked to take part in such an amazing event and I cannot wait for Paris even more now!

Q: What is your favourite look to do?

A: There are so many looks that I like doing, but my favourite style is something bold and adventurous. I love experimenting with different colours.

Q: What is the latest makeup trend?

A: In my opinion dewy, highlighted skin is really in at the moment. A lot of designers wanted a natural dewy look at LFW too.

Q: What look would you say never goes out of fashion?

A: Definitely cat flick eyeliner from the 1950’s/1960’s. I always see so many people wearing this look and I love it myself too.

Q: What product do you swear by?

A: I absolutely love Charlotte Tilbury products. My favourite is her Magic Cream. It suits every skin type. Her Multi Miracle Glow mask and her lipsticks are also amazing.

Q: Have you got any advice for someone doing their own makeup?

A: Make sure you have a great base before applying your makeup, so invest in a moisturiser and primer that suits your skin type. This way your makeup will have a much better chance of lasting for the whole day.
